I agree, that these stuffs do help you deal with stress and depressions. But we must also agree that it's just for a short period and again it comes back. So ideally, the only way to deal with it properly, is to learn how to fight your mind. it's the mind that decides stress. alcoholic drugs and all might help u to deal with stress but later in life you'll have to deal with the consequences of having those things. The decision is yours!
