Basically when Amazon was just starting they started with selling books for that they use to get request (order) from client who wanted to make a purchase of a book. Amazon use to contact distributor and place the order of book which buyer wants to

Hoo! ok so that's what they did but since costemers don't want to buy in bulk but the sellers would like to sell in bulk to solve this the Amazon acted like a mediator who bought books (only the ones the costemers want) in bulk and also sell in singularly to a costemers
