Semiconductor business required lots of investment in terms of finance and human as well. Because, now low finance business in semiconductor industry like, designing etc. are done by manufacturers themselves. So, no option left for the causal or wanna be entrepreneurs. Look at the industry chain. Small parts of chain are now slowly slowly done by big manufacturers. Previously they outsourced or do contract based things. Now they do all in inhouse facilities.

India should also look into sustainable and green technologies in semiconductor manufacturing. Given the global push for sustainability, this could be a niche where India can excel.

Look at what China did. Massive government support, forced tech transfers, and now they’re catching up. India could take a few pages from their playbook, copy in a democratic way. lol.

I’m skeptical. The competition is fierce, and other countries have a head start. Unless India can offer something unique, it will be hard to catch up.

India has a lot of potential in the semiconductor sector, but there are significant hurdles. Infrastructure development and skilled labor force are the main challenges. The government's PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme is a step in the right direction, but it needs robust implementation.

It’s not just about production; it’s about the entire ecosystem. India needs to develop a strong supply chain, from raw materials to end products. Education and training will be crucial for creating a skilled workforce.

The PLI scheme is promising, but India needs to invest heavily in R&D. Taiwan and South Korea are decades ahead. Collaborations with leading global semiconductor companies could be beneficial.
