I'm torn. On one hand, the employee is right that Google pursued some fairly speculative or gimmicky "AI" projects just for branding. On the other, leaning into that branding is what allows them to secure talent and invest enough to lead in transformative areas like large language models and generative AI. It's a double-edged sword.
