The 10,000 hour "rule" is pure bunk. I put in way more practice than that in my field and I'm still an underachiever. Gladwell oversimplifies the road to success and ignores things like intelligence, grit, and other innate attributes.

You've got the right mindset! 10000 hrs is a benchmark but not an end. I also believe that these factors have a far bigger role to play in the lives of many rather than what Gladwell mentions. But those factors do contribute significantly.
