“Oreo’s Dunk In the Dark ” WEIRD Marketing Strategy #12 On February 3, 2013 during Super Bowl XLVII a power outage occurred in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. The power outage lasted for 45 minutes and when it was restored people turned the TV on, only to find out that the game between their favorite team and its opponent had already ended. While a lot of football teams, fans, and viewers were left in the dark, no other brand pulled off a “more fancy footwork” than oreo.Oreo posted a simple tweet on its Twitter account. The post showed a dimly-lit Oreo cookie with the words, “You can still dunk in the dark.” Within the first few hours after it was posted during the Super Bowl blackout. It quickly gained traction on social media platforms and garnered significant attention. Just a day after it was posted on Twitter,it went viral. This campaign was stated as one of the most buzz-worthy ads of the [2013] Super Bowl.
