I'd push back on this take. Tech and coding absolutely can be real passions disconnected from someone's main job. It's creative and problem-solving in nature. Maybe 20 years ago coding was too technical for most hobbyists. But in 2023 it's becoming more commonplace as a hobby like singing or photography.
