Your AI coding assistant should never phone home. I just cut the cord completely and it's 10x faster. Everyone's arguing about which cloud AI is better. They're missing the point: the cloud is the bottleneck. I ran Claude Code locally this morning using Ollama and glm-4.7-flash. Four commands, 45 seconds, zero internet required. Here's what actually happened: I pulled glm-4.7-flash with `ollama pull glm-4.7-flash`, installed Claude Code with their script, then launched it pointing to my local model. The difference is absurd. No API calls. No rate limits. No data leaving my machine. I'm coding on Mumbai Metro with airplane mode on and getting full autocomplete, refactoring, even generating entire React components. The performance jump isn't marginal, it's transformative. Cloud Claude gives me 2-3 second delays. Local Claude responds in 200ms. That's not 10% faster. That's 10x faster. Plus I'm not paying $20/month to send my proprietary code to someone else's servers. For Indian founders building actual products: this changes everything. Your code stays in India. Your data stays in India. Your IP stays in India. No more explaining to investors why your AI assistant might be training on your codebase. No more hitting API quotas during crunch time. What I genuinely don't know: how many developers will actually do this? The setup is dead simple but most people I talk to still think local AI means buying a $3000 GPU. They're stuck in 2023.
