Yaar by default we are more likely to take an easier route with less struggles. If you have to drive to someplace and you know one route is very bad and the other is very smooth. You would take that, the context is not your own company or doing a job for someone else. The context is wrongfully committing yourself to say haa kar lenge ho jayega, dekhenge and then crying about it. Who doesn’t do it for their own company matlab khudka company ho tab hi disproportionate effort daaloge? Job ke liye nahi? The way i see it, my company was my career and i had to do whatever was needed to survive in my career. Job is the same in that regard, job is their career and they should do whatever it takes to get the best outcome. Sometimes it is keeping your head down and let your work speak.

The point here is not "working hard". Ofcourse, hustling is the way forward if you are a motivated individual. The point here is working hard beyond the scheduled shift which is concerning. Now, if the person was communicated in advance that he would be required to work for 10+ hours, then it's his mistake otherwise if this working hour is unsolicited, then it shouldn't be acceptable. From the startup pov, if the company want productive output during the entire 12 hour shift, they should know that a person can only be productive for max 5 hours ( a not much motivated individual, basically employees), they should rather consider employing two candidates on part time basis (6 hours each) and divide the salary (keep it sufficient). This way neither the employees would complain and not the productivity would be impacted.
