Uber customer charged Rs 1,334 for 8.8km ride approaches consumer court, wins Rs 10,000

An Uber customer from Chandigarh, India, was charged INR 1,334 ($18) for an 8.83 km ride, resulting in a complaint. The customer received a compensation of INR 10,000 ($134) and Uber refunded INR 975 ($13) as a gesture of goodwill. The Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh also ordered Uber to pay an additional INR 10,000 ($134) for legal expenses. Uber stated that the fare discrepancy was due to multiple route deviations, but it couldn't determine whether the driver deviated or if the customer requested it.
