A recent study by Red Hat found that technical debt is a major obstacle to digital transformation in businesses across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). About 28% of companies in the region reported that their digital transformation efforts were hindered by accumulated technical debt. The study identified on-premises applications as the dominant infrastructure landscape, with 47% of businesses using them. Data privacy and security were cited as the key reasons for running applications on-premises, but the cost benefits of cloud environments were still attractive. Manual processes, IT operations, and skill gaps were also noted as challenges in achieving successful digital transformation. The report anticipates increased investment in cloud management and prioritizes network security, threat intelligence, and vulnerability management for the year ahead.
