The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has approved four semiconductor development projects in 2024. These include one chip fabrication project and three chip packaging units. The chip fabrication unit, a joint venture between Tata Electronics and Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, will be located in Gujarat and have a capacity of manufacturing 50,000 wafer starts per month. Additionally, two chip packaging units will be built in Gujarat and Assam, with capacities of over 70 million chips per month combined. The ministry has also developed and deployed the India AI platform to encourage safe and trusted artificial intelligence deployment.

India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has approved five semiconductor units to receive subsidies from the central and state governments. These units include Micron Technology, Tata Electronics Private Limited in partnership with Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Pvt Ltd, CG Power in partnership with Renesas Electronics Corporation and Stars Microelectronics, and Kaynes Semicon. These units will generate employment opportunities in various industries and accelerate the development of the semiconductor ecosystem in India. Additionally, there are projects in the pipeline from Tower in partnership with Adani, Suchi Semicon, Foxconn Technology Group and HCL Group, and ASIP and APACT Limited. Tarq Semiconductors, owned by Hiranandani Group, has also sought approval for its facilities.
