India aims to become one of the top five semiconductor manufacturing nations by 2028, with investments expected to reach 7.5 lakh crore. The government plans to focus on executing India's first semiconductor fab project, led by the Tata group, along with two other chip assembly proposals. By developing a complete value chain, including design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and packaging, India aims to attract companies to establish their presence in the country. The semiconductor industry will provide strategic advantages and geopolitical value, positioning India amongst the top semiconductor leaders such as Taiwan, South Korea, the US, and China.

India's semiconductor programme, Semicon, is set to produce at least 10 chipsets entirely within the country, including design, fabrication, and packaging.
