Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) has opened a new research and development (R&D) facility in Bengaluru, India. The facility aims to drive semiconductor R&D in India and meet the company's growing infrastructure needs. With a capacity for around 1,600 professionals, the facility spans 1.6 lakh square feet across four floors. SSIR operates globally within Samsung Electronics' network, providing component solutions and showcasing technologies across System LSI, Memory, and Foundry sectors. The company currently employs over 4,500 people in India and plans to hire an additional 700 employees. Samsung's move towards laptop manufacturing in India follows restrictions on imports imposed by the government last year.
