Men’s sexual health and wellness brand Bold Care has raised $5 million in a funding round co-led by Nithin Kamath’s Rainmatter, CaratLane co-founder Mithun and Siddhartha Sacheti, the Dhanani family, AVT Group, along with participation from Gruhas Collective Consumer Fund and NB Ventures. Entrackr exclusively reported on the deal in December. The proceeds will be used to strengthen research and development (R&D), scale the brand’s digital presence, and develop sexual health solutions for both men and women, Bold Care said in a press release. Co-founded in 2020 by Rajat Jadhav, Rahul Krishnan, Harsh Singh, Mohit Yadav, and actor Ranveer Singh, Bold Care provides solutions for issues such as premature ejaculation (PE) and erectile dysfunction (ED). It also offers condoms and lubricants and claims to have fulfilled over 30 lakh (3 million) orders so far. Bold Care has recently expanded into the women’s wellness sector with the launch of Bloom, offering solutions for women’s health concerns, including sexual health, personal hygiene, menopause, menstrual care, and pregnancy. The Mumbai-based startup currently sells its products through its own website, as well as on e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, and Meesho. It is also available on quick commerce platforms. According to market research, sexual health issues affect approximately 90-95 million men in India. For the fiscal year ending March 2024 (FY24), Bold Care’s revenue from operations increased by 6.67% to Rs 32.9 crore from Rs 30.90 crore in FY23. However, the company also reported a 21.46% increase in losses to Rs 19.3 crore in the last fiscal year. Bold Care competes with other D2C sexual and wellness brands, including Man Matters, Kindly, Sukham, Kapiva, and Sassiest, among others.

Monk-E, a full-stack creative digital media agency, specializes in talent management, video production, social media management, and influencer marketing. In FY24, the company generated 86.6% of its revenue from India, with the rest coming from international markets. On the cost side, influencer marketing charges made up 84% of the total expenses, though the cost dipped 2% year-on-year to Rs 77.4 crore in FY24 from Rs 79 crore in FY23. Meanwhile, employee benefit expenses grew 38% to Rs 7.7 crore during the same period. Out of the total influencer marketing charges, Allahbadia and his venture BeerBiceps Media received Rs 7.77 crore for providing technical services to Monk-E. Commission, legal fees, rent, advertising, and other overheads pushed Monk-E's total costs to Rs 92 crore in FY24. Monk-E recorded a 58.9% year-on-year profit increase, with profits rising to Rs 7.23 crore in FY24 from Rs 4.55 crore in FY23. Its ROCE stood at 35.4%, while the EBITDA margin reached 7.86%. On a unit level, the company spent Re 0.94 to earn a rupee. By the end of FY24, Monk-E's total current assets were reported at Rs 28.46 crore, including Rs 5.5 crore in cash and bank balances. While it's probably too early to speculate about the impact on the firm from Allahbadia’s recent controversy, the scale of Monk-E shows how much is at stake. It is crucial for viewers to apply better discretion before believing everything they see and hear from these new-age channels.

Burger Singh, an Indian quick-service restaurant chain, faced a significant financial downturn in the fiscal year ending March 2024. The company's losses surged over six-fold during this period, despite a 34% year-on-year growth in operating revenue. Burger Singh’s revenue from operations grew to Rs 77.7 crore in FY24 from Rs 57.8 crore in FY23, its annual financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies show. The 12-year-old company operates as a quick-service restaurant, offering a diverse menu of burgers, sides, desserts, and beverages through a combination of self-owned and franchise outlets. Burger Singh derives its revenue from three sources: sales from its own stores, franchise goods sales, and franchise services. In FY24, sales of food and beverages from its own stores contributed 48% of the total operating revenue, which grew by 60% to Rs 37.66 crore. Revenue from the sale of franchises and the sale of goods to franchise stores stood at Rs 10.81 crore and Rs 28.6 crore, respectively. For the food and beverages startup, the cost of procurement became the largest cost center forming 43% of its overall cost. In the line of scale, this cost grew 31.3% to Rs 39.2 crore in FY24 from Rs 29.9 crore in FY23. Burger Singh has witnessed a 54% surge in its employee benefits to Rs 18.37 crore in FY24. The commission, traveling, legal, and advertising are other overheads that pushed the total expenditure up by 43.7% to Rs 91.1 crore in FY24 from Rs 63.4 crore in FY23. The 43.7% increase in the total cost outpaced the revenue growth, resulting in losses which spiked 6.3X to Rs 27.9 crore in FY24. Its ROCE and EBITDA margin stood at -94.76% and -30.94%, respectively. On a unit level, Burger Singh spent Rs 1.17 to earn a rupee in FY24. Notably, Burger Singh’s cash and bank balances stood at Rs 19.51 crore with a total current assets standing at Rs 31.3 crore in FY24. In December 2023, Burger Singh raised its pre Series A round from Turner Morrison and existing backers at a valuation of $52 million. The company has raised over $12 million to date and operates more than 175 outlets spanning 75 cities.

Pristyn Care, a surgery-focused hospital chain, recorded over Rs 600 crore in revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2024. While expanding its operations, the Tiger Global-backed company kept its losses steady during the same period. Pristyn Care’s revenue from operations grew by 32.7% to Rs 601 crore in FY24 from Rs 453 crore in FY23, its consolidated financial statements accessed from the Registrar of Companies show. The company follows a hybrid model, setting up its own clinics and utilizing third-party hospital infra to provide surgeries. The company claims to have a presence in over 40 cities, managing 100 clinics and treating patients in more than 350 partner hospitals. Income from the sale of healthcare services accounted for 55.24% of the total operating revenue which stood at Rs 332 crore in FY24. The rest of the revenue came from the sale of medical and healthcare products which surged 2.5X to Rs 267 crore in the previous fiscal. Pristyn Care also added Rs 31 crore in income from (non-operating) activities, which tallied its overall revenue to Rs 632 crore in FY24, as compared to Rs 494 crore in FY23. For the healthcare firm, the procurement of medical devices accounted for 26% of its total expenses. Driven by the growth in device sales, the procurement costs rose to Rs 264 crore in FY24 from Rs 75 crore in FY23. The company cut its advertising and employee benefits costs by 21% and 3.5% to Rs 183 crore and Rs 192 crore, respectively. Surgery, fees to doctors, legal, travel, consumables, and other overheads increased the overall expenditure to Rs 1,014 crore in FY24 from Rs 877 crore in FY23. By the end of FY24, the Harsimarbir Singh-led company reduced its workforce by 7% as it aims for profitability and prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) in the coming years. The 32% scale and controlled expenditure on advertising and employee benefits helped Pristyn Care to post a flat loss which stood at Rs 381 crore in FY24, as compared to Rs 383 crore in FY23. On a unit level, it spent Rs 1.69 to earn a rupee in FY24. For its surgery business, the company projects a 35% growth in FY25, along with a 60% improvement at the EBITDA level. Pristyn Care also plans to launch an IPO within the next three years. Notably, Pristyn Care achieved this growth without raising external funds in the past three years. In December 2021, the company secured $85 million from Peak XV Partners, Tiger Global to attain unicorn status. In June 2022, it acquired Lybrate, a company backed by Ratan Tata and Tiger Global.
