Phi Commerce, a SaaS-based omnichannel payment solutions provider, recorded over two-fold year-on-year growth in its operating scale for the fiscal year ending March 2024. However, its losses surged 3X during the same period due to its growth expansion efforts. PhiCommerce’s operating revenue grew to Rs 81.2 crore in FY24 from Rs 34.7 crore in FY23, as per its annual consolidated financial statements filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC). Phi Commerce is a digital payment solutions provider offering a unified omnichannel payments platform for businesses, banks, and networks. Its flagship product, PayPhi, simplifies complex digital transactions across online, in-store, on-the-go, and doorstep channels. For Phi Commerce, commissions on GMV settlements with merchants accounted for 90% of its operating revenue, totaling Rs 72.3 crore in FY24. The remaining revenue came from technology infrastructure and value-added services for payment aggregation. The firm earned Rs 3.4 crore in interest from fixed deposits and non-current investments, bringing its total revenue to Rs 84.5 crore. Phi Commerce's total expenses surged 137% to Rs 116.6 crore in FY24 from Rs 49.2 crore in FY23, driven by increased operational costs. Processing charges for payments remained the largest cost component, accounting for 60% of total expenses, rising 2.6X to Rs 70.5 crore in FY24. Employee benefit expenses also saw a 109% YoY increase, reaching Rs 27.8 crore. Additional costs, including legal and platform support fees, share-based compensation to consultants, and other overheads, further pushed total expenses up by 137%. As a result, Phi Commerce's total costs outpaced revenue growth, leading to a 207% increase in net loss, which widened to Rs 28.9 crore in FY24 from Rs 9.4 crore in FY23. On a unit level, the company spent Rs 1.44 to earn a rupee in FY24. By the end of FY24, Phi Commerce recorded a negative ROCE of -40.18% and an EBITDA margin of -35.11%. Its total current assets stood at Rs 107.7 crore, including Rs 64.6 crore in cash and bank balances as of March 2024. Phi Commerce has raised $14 million in funding to date including a $10 million Series A round led by BEENEXT and participation from Opus Ventures. According to the data intelligence platform TheKredible, Opus Ventures is the largest external stakeholder followed by Beenext.

Revenues from this vertical grew 19% to Rs 1,800 crore from Rs 1,518 crore in Q1 FY25. The company’s quick commerce segment also saw remarkable growth, with revenue surging by 2X to Rs 806 crore in Q1 FY26 from Rs 374 crore in Q1 FY25. The segment's gross order value (GOV) growth was driven by an increase in order frequency and the addition of new dark stores. Swiggy’s Dine Out, Genie, Swiggy Mini and other non-operating income took its total revenue to Rs 5,048 crore in Q1 FY26. On the cost side, the procurement of FMCG products for supply chain distribution formed 33% of its overall cost which increased by 72% to Rs 2,064 crore in Q1 FY26. Meanwhile, the delivery charges saw 26% growth to Rs 1,313 crore in Q1 FY26. Swiggy spent Rs 686 crore and Rs 1,036 crore on employee benefits and advertising, respectively. Overall, Swiggy’s total expenses for the quarter increased 60% to Rs 6,244 crore from Rs 3,908 crore in Q1 FY25. The 60% growth in expenditure led losses to increase by 96% to Rs 1,197 crore in Q1 FY26 from Rs 611 crore in Q1 FY25. Recently Swiggy reshuffled its board as Sumer Juneja from SoftBank and Anand Daniel from Accel resigned from their roles as nominee directors on Swiggy’s board. Following these departures, Swiggy appointed Faraz Khalid, CEO of Middle East commerce platform noon, as an independent director. Swiggy shares were trading at Rs 404 at the end of Thursday with a total market capitalization of Rs 1,00,730 crore.

AmazonTransport Services aka ATS’s revenue from operations grew 7.6% to Rs 4,888.9 crore in FY24 from Rs 4,543.3 crore in FY23, its standalone financial statement sourced from Tofler shows. Apart from operational income, ATS’s other income spiked 66% to Rs 57.3 crore in FY24 from Rs 34.5 crore in the previous fiscal year. This brought the total income for FY24 to Rs 4,946.2 crore. Amazon Transportation Services provides logistics and delivery solutions, supporting Amazon's e-commerce operations. Its services include order pickup, sorting, and last-mile delivery across India. It makes money via offering aforementioned services to Amazon India. The company’s total expenses excluding depreciation stood at Rs 4,690.8 crore in FY24 from Rs 4,310.2 crore in FY23, marking an 8.8% rise. Depreciation expenses, however, decreased by 10.2%, standing at Rs 313.7 crore for FY24, down from Rs 349.4 crore in FY23. Despite the growth in revenue, ATS managed to reduce its losses by 6.3% to Rs 80.3 crore in FY24 from Rs 85.7 crore in FY23. Its outstanding losses reached Rs 469.8 crore as of the end of FY24. Other equity components, including the share-based compensation reserve, increased 26% to Rs Rs 490.4 crore in the last fiscal year. While ATS’s parent company, Amazon Corporate Holdings continues to support its operations, the persistent losses indicate ongoing challenges in reaching profitability despite YoY revenue growth. In the past five years, Amazon India (through transport services) has expanded its partnership with Indian Railways, increasing from a single train in 2019 to over 120 trains by 2024, now covering 130 intercity routes across 91 cities.

The Indian unit of merchant commerce and payments platform Pine Labs has reported flat revenue in the fiscal year ending March 2024. However, the Delhi-based firm’s losses swelled 3X in this period. Pine Labs’s operating revenue increased modestly by 2.8% to Rs 1,317 crore in FY24 from Rs 1,281 crore in FY23, its annual financial statements sourced from the Registrar of Companies show. Caveat: Pine Labs is registered in Singapore and has not yet submitted its FY24 results there. Based on the previous fiscal year’s report, the parent entity is expected to post approximately Rs 400 crore more or over Rs 1,700 crore in operating revenue in the last fiscal year. As for the revenue channels of Pine Labs’ Indian entity, income from transaction processing and settlement was the main contributor, accounting for 61% of total operating revenue, which rose a modest 1.5% to Rs 805 crore in FY24. Income from digitization and services provided at petroleum outlets amounted to Rs 67 crore during the same period. Pine Labs also offers gifting solutions through Qwikcilver, Pine Perks, and Google Wallet. Income from this segment declined by 44.5% to Rs 111 crore in FY24. Revenue from device sales, plastic cards, and other miscellaneous sources brought the total revenue to Rs 1,384 crore during the last fiscal year, compared to Rs 1,328 crore in FY23. In terms of cost breakdown, Pine Labs allocated 38.5% of its total expenditure to employee benefits, which grew by 3% to Rs 625 crore in FY24, including Rs 58 crore in non-cash ESOP expenses. Legal and professional fees were the next largest expense category. Other significant costs included materials, travel, advertising, e-commerce site listings, database communication, and repairs, bringing total expenditures up by 15.8% to Rs 1,624 crore in FY24. Pine Labs recently received approval from a Singapore court to relocate its domicile to India. It also obtained initial approval from the National Company Law Tribunal to merge its entities in India and Singapore. Pine Labs has been pursuing an initial public offering (IPO) for several years. Last year, the company appointed bankers for a U.S. IPO, but the attempt did not materialize. While the firm has not yet confirmed a listing timeline, it is likely to debut on one of the Indian stock exchanges sometime in the next fiscal year (FY26).

Meanwhile, the delivery charges saw 27% growth to Rs 1,161 crore in Q4 FY25. Swiggy spent Rs 695 crore and Rs 978 crore on employee benefits and advertising, respectively. Overall, Swiggy’s total expenses for the quarter increased 53% to Rs 5,609 crore from Rs 3,668 crore in Q4 FY24. On a fiscal-on-fiscal year basis, its total expenses increased to Rs 18,725 crore in the quarter ending March 2025 from Rs 13,947 crore in FY24. The 53% growth in expenditure led losses to increase by 95% to Rs 1,081 crore in Q4 FY25 from Rs 555 crore in Q4 FY24. Falca offers four key products catering to different aspects of the agricultural supply chain. Suggi supplies agricultural inputs such as seeds and pesticides through a network of physical stores. Samrat is a full-stack solution that provides advisory services, inputs, and market linkage. Siri functions as a trading platform, connecting large farmers, traders, and FPOs with buyers. Lastly, Sampoorna offers mobile and web applications to enhance farm yield and operational efficiency. The sale of these products and services was the sole source of revenue for Falca in the last fiscal year. Outpacing its year-on-year revenue growth, Falca's total expenses rose 30.2% to Rs 384 crore in FY24. The cost of materials remained the largest expense, making up 94% of total expenses. In line with the company's scale, material costs increased by 27%, reaching Rs 362 crore in FY24, up from Rs 284 crore in FY23. Falca’s employee benefit costs doubled to Rs 10 crore, and finance expenses spiked 50% to Rs 3 crore. Other expenses added another Rs 9 crore for the fiscal year ending March 2024. In the end, Falca’s net loss widened threefold to Rs 15 crore in FY24, compared to a Rs 5 crore loss in FY23. The company’s EBITDA margin further declined from -1% in FY23 to -3.14% in FY24. On a unit basis, the company spent Rs 1.04 to earn a single rupee in FY24. Falca’s cash and bank balances dropped by 50% to Rs 4 crore, while current assets declined significantly from Rs 53.5 crore to Rs 24.5 crore. According to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible, it has raised a total of approx $3 million of funding to date, having Kingston Smiler and Inflection Point Ventures as its lead investors.

The results showcase a decent growth in scale along with a 3.8X jump in profits. Zomato’s revenue from operations grew 15.4% to Rs 3,288 crore in Q3 FY24 in contrast to Rs 2,848 crore Q2 FY24, as per the firm’s consolidated financial results sourced from National Stock Exchange. Compared to the third quarter of the previous fiscal (Q3 FY23) year, its operating revenue went up by 68.8% from Rs 1,948 crore. Zomato operates several units including a food marketplace platform connecting end users, restaurants, and delivery personnel. Hyperpure provides farm-to-fork supplies to restaurants and businesses while Blinkit offers kirana, FMCG and other essentials within 10 minutes. Meanwhile, dining.out and Zomato Live let users discover restaurants, reserve tables, and book tickets for entertainment events. The firm made 51.8% of its total operating revenue via food ordering and delivery business, which grew 10.2% to Rs 1,704 crore in Q3 FY24 from Rs 1,546 crore in Q2 of the same financial year. Collections from its Hyperpure supplies (B2B business) increased 15.3% to Rs 859 crore during the same period while quick commerce vertical (Blinkit) contributed Rs 644 crore to the group’s coffers. The remaining income came from the ‘Going-out’ segment and other operating activities during the quarter ending December 2023. Additionally, Zomato also earned Rs 219 crore as non-operating income (mainly from interest and gains on financial assets) in Q3 FY24. As a result, its overall revenue crossed Rs 3,500 crore during the period. Coming to expenses, delivery and related charges accounted for 31.6% in Q3 which surged 16.2% to Rs 1,068 crore. Purchase of stock (after adjustment of changes in inventories) inclined 16% to Rs 782 crore while employee benefits cost remained flat at Rs 423 crore during the quarter. Zomato also spent Rs 374 crore on advertisement and promotions, akin to which its total expenditure rose 11.3% to Rs 3,383 crore in Q3 of FY24. On the lines of rising scale, Zomato’s profits also jumped 3.8X to Rs 138 crore in Q3 against Rs 36 crore in the previous quarter. Last year in the same quarter (Q3 FY23), it booked Rs 347 crore in losses. On a unit level, the company spent Rs 1.03 to earn a rupee in Q3 of FY24. For the nine months ended period (Apr-Dec 2024), Zomato recorded Rs 8,552 crore revenue from operations with a profit of Rs 176 crore. Zomato made its public market debut in July 2021 at a valuation of $12 billion and touched its peak of over Rs 150 per share in November 2021. Later, it dwindled under Rs 50 during July 2022. Zomato got its momentum back in Q1 of FY24 when it recorded profits for the first time. Since then, the company attained nearly 3X surge in its share price and its current share price stands around Rs 144 a piece.

According to the filings, Phi Commerce plans to utilize the fresh capital for general corporate purposes. Entrackr estimates that the company’s valuation rose over 2X to Rs 1,310 crore or $154 million, compared to Rs 592 crore in its previous Series A1 round. The Beenext-backed firm recorded a loss of Rs 29 crore during the same period. In the payments space, Phi Commerce competes with major players such as Razorpay, which reported a revenue of Rs 2,500 crore in FY24, and Pine Labs, which posted Rs 1,384 crore in the same period, along with Cashfree and several other emerging fintechs.

The company’s quick commerce segment also saw remarkable growth, with revenue surging by 135% to Rs 490 crore in Q2 FY25 from Rs 208 crore in Q2 FY24. The segment's gross order value (GOV) growth was driven by an increase in order frequency and the addition of new stores, contributing significantly to the company’s overall revenue. Scootsy Logistics contributed a major 40% of Swiggy’s overall operating income. Income from this entity increased by 22% quarter-on-quarter to Rs 1,452 crore in Q2 FY25 from Rs 1,190 crore in Q2 FY24. Scootsy alone earned a total revenue of Rs 5,196 crore of revenue in FY24. This vertical is engaged in the business of supply chain services and distribution. Swiggy’s Dine Out, Genie, Swiggy Mini and other non-operating income took its total revenue to Rs 3,686 crore in Q2 FY25. On the cost side, the procurement of FMCG products for supply chain distribution formed 32.2% of its overall cost which increased by 16.1% to Rs 1,388 crore in Q2 FY25. Meanwhile, the delivery charges saw a modest 4.7% growth to Rs 1,095 crore in Q2 FY25. Swiggy spent Rs 607 crore and Rs 605 crore on employee benefits and advertising, respectively. Its legal, infrastructure, and other overheads pushed the overall cost up by 22.9% to Rs 4309 crore in Q2 FY25. The 30.3% scale and controlled expenditure helped Swiggy to decrease its losses by 4.9% to Rs 625 crore in Q2FY25 from Rs 657 crore in Q2FY24. It spent Rs 1.19 to earn a rupee in Q2FY25.
