EU targets TikTok, other apps over AI risk to elections

The EU has utilized its new Digital Services Act (DSA) to investigate TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, Snapchat, Bing, and AliExpress on their approaches to countering risks related to AI in elections. The European Commission is particularly concerned about deepfakes, the dissemination of false information, and automated manipulation of services that can mislead voters. Additionally, the Commission has questioned LinkedIn on the use of personal information for targeted advertising. The formal probe against AliExpress could lead to significant fines or even a ban if it is found to have violated the DSA. This action follows the European Parliament's adoption of a law aimed at regulating artificial intelligence.
