E-commerce platforms can't become haven for counterfeiters: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has ruled that e-commerce platforms cannot be a safe haven for intellectual property infringers and counterfeiters. While acknowledging their profit-oriented nature, the court emphasized that these platforms must also prioritize the protection of others' intellectual property rights. The judgment was made in response to a lawsuit filed by sportswear brand Puma, accusing the e-commerce platform Indiamart of facilitating the sale of counterfeit goods. The court ordered the removal of all infringing listings related to Puma from Indiamart and directed the platform to implement sufficient measures to prevent counterfeiters from misrepresenting themselves as genuine sellers.
