Google just gave every Indian founder a free AI intern that lives in their browser. I tested the new Gemini sidebar in Chrome this morning and it's not another chatbot toy , it's a context-aware operator that can read your Gmail, scan your Drive, pull from Maps, and write the email without you leaving the tab. In Hindi. In Marathi. In Kannada. Zero setup, zero rupees. Here's what actually happened: I opened three tabs comparing flight prices to Bangalore, clicked the "Ask Gemini" icon, typed "find the cheapest non-stop and draft a calendar block for the departure" and it pulled my Calendar availability, highlighted the Indigo fare on the third tab, and dropped a meeting invite in one motion. Total time: 14 seconds. No copy-paste, no tab dance. The part everyone is underestimating is the Nano Banana 2 image model baked inside. I uploaded a photo of my cluttered desk, typed "show me a standing desk that fits here under 12k" and it generated the exact product shot inside my room, price tag and Flipkart link attached. That's not search , that's instant visual commerce. For Indian creators and D2C brands this is massive. You no longer need a Shopify plugin, a ChatGPT Plus subscription, or a VA to handle routine research, email, and visual mock-ups. The entire stack is now inside the browser your team already uses, in the languages they actually speak. Margins on operational tasks just went to zero. My honest worry: how long before Google starts charging for this? They're subsidising compute today to kill competitors, but the moment usage moats are built, the price tag will appear. Do we architect workflows assuming it stays free, or bake in the cost now before the rug pull?
