A Rangoli. A Rain. And A Heartbreak. This Diwali, my daughters Prisha (10) and Dishani (7) created this Rangoli. Every bit of it was made with excitement, laughter, and love. It stayed perfect for 7 days, even through the 3 days we were away on holiday. They were so proud of it. But yesterday, it rained. And a stray dog, looking for shelter, found our doorstep and sat on their Rangoli. When the girls saw it, they cried their hearts out. “We worked so hard on it, Papa. How could it get spoiled in no time?” I didn’t have the heart to stop their tears, but I did tell them this: “It hurts, right? When you put in so much effort and someone ruins it in seconds? That’s how Mumma feels when she cleans your room and within hours, it’s messy again.” They went quiet. And in that silence, a big life lesson settled in for them, and for me. Because this wasn’t just about a Rangoli. It was about *respecting someone else’s effort.* Something all of us forget way too easily, at home, at work, and in life. Sometimes, it takes a smudged Rangoli to remind us of empathy. 💔
