Ever had a small, everyday moment that changed how you see things? Mine started with something as simple as buying potatoes. Three months ago, I was at a shop asking, “Bhaiya, 1 kilo aalu kitne ka?” He said, “₹40.” I asked, “Agar teen kilo loon toh?” He smiled, paused, and said, “₹35 de do.” Classic “buy more, save more” logic. But it didn’t sit right with me that day. Most people only need one kilo. But if three neighbours need one each, that’s still three kilos. Why shouldn’t everyone enjoy that same saving- just by buying together? At Picapool, we were working on helping people connect within a customised radius- to ask, share, buy, or sell within their vicinity. That’s when this question hit us- if people are already connected, why not let them shop together too? So we tested it- surveyed hundreds of WhatsApp groups across Delhi University, watched how people engaged, and then tried our first group buy on 12th October: 20 units of boAt Airdopes 148- gone in 27 hours. It made us curious- if one small idea could bring people together like that, what else could they do collectively within their vicinity? Group Buy is now live on Picapool. It started as a small experiment, and seeing it work has been insightful. At the same time, it leaves us wondering what more can come from these everyday connections.
