Someone asked me how to nail onboarding and funnels to convert users to paid users. Even though I am not an expert on this subject, this is how I would go about it because I do not have a single resource to point to. The best way to learn is by actually studying the apps that have already nailed this. Open the most successful consumer apps with paywalls and follow their journey from first open to onboarding to paywall. You will start to notice repeatable patterns: -> where they place friction -> how they build urgency -> what they highlight before asking you to pay. -> how they optimize for yearly instead of monthly -> How some of them optimize for a free trial first. Once you have seen enough examples like Cal AI, BibleChat, Quittr, etc., those patterns will easily click to you. For Indian apps take inspiration from apps that have worked in India. I have studied 100s of apps while building Medial and I think its the best way to learn without reading theory which never materialises. It has helped me a lot in acquiring more than 450K users now and monetise early. But if you still want to read case studies, you can refer to app masters on youtube or lenny's newsletter as well.

Retention = High Product Value + Low Cognitive Effort A product’s value isn't just in what it does but in how effortless it feels to use. Tiny frictions add up, causing users to drop off before onboarding or leave for a better alternative. Imagine
