Ra One, the dream(mine) that was supposed to save the VFX industry and my soul back in 2011! I took myself to the 1st day, 1st show in Ahmedabad, practically begging for this film to be my beacon of hope as I was ditching the animation and VFX world. It tanked harder than my career wishes. But, oh, the irony my kid recently watched it and thought it was the bee’s knees! Who knew the new generation would vibe with a movie that flopped so spectacularly? I wasn’t even a fan of directors work before this, though Anubhav was my cousin brothers' name . A few TV shorts caught my eye, sure, but Ra One? That was the first time I looked at Arjun Rampal and thought, “Wow, you are not completely unbearable!” Too bad the money window didn’t agree with it. Saw directors' tweet/X recently, feeling nostalgic about that day, including remembering my decision of a change in my life. How coincidental. That same year, I pivoted and Anubhav Sinha also changed his route, and now I am happy appreciating "Bheed" because of him again, sarcastically saluting Ra One like it was that milestone (I loved and am proud of it, though the storytelling could have been a tad better, some tracks were all over the place. Not trying to be a critic, just saying as a filmmaking student). Thanks for the memories, truly, a rollercoaster of dashed hopes and not surprised approvals. Keep making good stuff, I guess. What do you guys think about turning moments in your life?
