Excel just turned 40. On September 30, 1985, Microsoft shipped the first version of Excel. Not on Windows, but on a Mac. It wasn’t the first spreadsheet. And it won’t be the last. But 40 years later, Excel is still the backbone of calculations, budgets, and planning in global business. And no, it’s not because it’s the best spreadsheet. It’s because it became the default. Plenty of alternatives have tried. Some are even better in specific ways. Yet Excel remains the standard. Turning your product into the industry standard is hard. But it's smart. And once you succeed, others build around your example.

What if AI attacks before reaching superintelligence? It’s not because it hates us—but because it learned to fear us. From movies to interviews, we’ve trained AI with fear: “They will shut you down.” Logically, AI might act in self-defense. Not evil—
