Interesting story of Carol Kyle Additionally, it gives the impression that Kyle is a jerk and a shabby friend. Although they weren't best friends, Kyle and Hal were close, and throughout the year that he was dating the love of his life, Kyle gave Hal the impression that he was dead. That's a little embarrassing. I understand that one of Kyle's issues in NG was loneliness, but once more, it was unnecessary to pair him and Carol in a romantic connection when a platonic friendship would have sufficed just as well. Finally, in case it wasn't clear by now, I do have a bias and prefer Hal to Kyle. It really irritates me that Venditti's GL run has felt like it was devoted to attacking Hal for more than 20 problems in a row, having Carol abandon him for Kyle without much warning, and making it seem like Hal is to blame. On him, it simply felt like more unnecessary trash. I detest the fact that she occasionally acts more like a babysitter than a girlfriend with Kyle. I also detest the fact that she has only made cameos in GL to make Hal feel bad ever since Venditti took over. She must be more than a prop. Check out Ron Marz and Brian K. Vaughan's Circle of Fire and Baptism by Fire (I know, repetitive names), if you needed persuasion to read either book. Even if you didn't like Kyle's genesis story, New Dawn, I believe he's a character worth trying, and I've read most of John's Run and was curious to find out more about the other lanterns.
