In financial /management consulting industry - everything runs on client needs/requirements - and basis that it can be classified into 3 broader categories: staff augmentation, skillset augmentation, and transformation augmentation. Staff augmentation: Hired for filling the role of full time employees, least impactful Skillset augmentation: Much like staff augmentation, but impactful Transformation augmentation: Hired for validation, credibility, or putting the blame, very impactful If you want to get into the industry - a good option is to start from skillset augmentation (get a good college for bachelors for easy placement, or learn the fundamentals through and through for lateral) then climb your way up in transformation augmentation (get good exposure in skillset augmentation, or do masters)
