Born in Tarash, amidst the wetlands of Chalan Beel, Benimadhab was once a revered Sanskrit scholar, a Varendra Brahmin devoted to learning and Dharma. But as Pathans rampaged through Bengal—demolishing temples, defiling deities, and silencing Hindu rituals—Benimadhab transformed into a warrior, sharpening his sword to restore justice. Trained under the legendary warrior Gobindo Singha, he rose to lead the band after his mentor’s death, earning the dreaded title Pandit Dakat [পণ্ডিত ডাকাত]. Alongside his two commanders, Jugal Kishore Sanyal—“Kaal Jogala”—and Chandi Prasad Ray—“Kaal Chandeya,” he launched brutal strikes against Pathans. On Amavasya nights, captured Pathans were sacrificed at the feet of Maa Yavanamardini Kali, the goddess he worshipped as the destroyer of invaders. 1/2
