🤔 “SEBI or GIFT City — which is faster for launching an AIF?” I get this question a lot. Trying to addressed it: Here’s the simple story 👇 🚦 GIFT City (IFSCA): • Register a Fund Management Entity (FME) first • Regulator aims to decide in ~45 days • Green channel → VC & Restricted schemes can start fundraising immediately once “taken on record” • Typical timeline: ~2–2.5 months 🏦 SEBI (Domestic AIF): • Register the AIF itself (Cat I/II/III) • First reply usually in 21 working days • Real-world approval: ~2–3 months • Certificate of Registration issued → first scheme taken on record ⚖️ The difference: • GIFT = faster, global, flexible • SEBI = structured, domestic-focused 👉 The real question isn’t which is quicker, but: Who are you raising from — global LPs or Indian investors? That answer will show you the right door.
