Nah man, that “China only has a few big companies” take is way off. China has 300+ unicorns as of 2024 — second only to the US — and many scale faster than anyone in SV. Shein went from nothing to beating Zara worldwide in under 5 years. Temu hit 100M+ US downloads in under 2 years — faster than Amazon ever did. SV’s “new founders and exciting ideas” are real, but don’t mistake media coverage for reality. Chinese startups don’t market to you, so you only notice them when they’re already huge. TikTok? Most people didn’t even know ByteDance until it was already bigger than Facebook in watch time. And let’s be real — SV is also ruled by a few giants buying smaller players. China plays the same game, just faster and at a bigger scale. Thinking SV is “way better” is basically seeing the world through a Palo Alto bubble.

nvm, i would like to stop the debate here but before going i would like to say please read my messages properly, I said few big companies are doing these things that u were trying to say in ur post, it didn't mean china has less unicorns. And talking about tiktok/shein, bro u r living in past. If u go deep down, sv startups keep potential to challenge google in the same upcoming things they both work on. It was fun sharing my pov.
