A Kerala engineering graduate has built an AI-powered device that converts spoken words into handwritten text, offering a potential breakthrough for people with disabilities who face challenges in writing. Ajay H, an electronics and communication engineering graduate, unveiled the project, named “Talk-to-Write”, at the Ente Keralam Expo 2025 in Alappuzha. The “Talk-to-Write” system functions as a digital scribe, using a CNC pen plotter to transcribe spoken words into handwritten text on A4 paper, line by line. It is built with a combination of Raspberry Pi, Arduino (GRBL), and Python, enabling it to process voice commands with precision and translate them into physical handwriting. “This platform allowed us to present how accessible, inclusive tech can be built by combining AI, embedded systems, and a clear vision for social impact,” he wrote in a post on LinkedIn.
