Reading books like 'Gambling Man' by Lionel Barber gives a great insight about what goes in the minds of a venture capitalist . It's not always that a VC money reaches the place it deserves. Many times it can just be a way of routing into some place in lieu of circumstances. The insane funding of 4B and hence the growth of the company like WEWORK was not done on the basis of its potential. A desperate need of Masayoshi Son to prove to the investors into Vision fund and a deal which was forced by trump made Masa throw money at a company. The fact that even Neumann got shocked looking at the figure Masa wanted to invest initially but when the funding was approved , how Neumann scaled his company aggressively and the conflicts between Masa and Neumann because Neumann wanted more funding to finish what he started is another great story in itself. The reason was this post is to emphasize the importance of the relation and transparency required from both investor and founder while making a deal. If the funding comes from any reason other than conviction on the prospects of business , the relationship doesn't last for long .
