Problem Statement – Need Optimisation Help for Reverse Geocoding GPS Trails Hey folks, I’m working on a GPS-based tracking system where GPS devices send packets every 10 seconds, containing latitude, longitude, and other relevant data. This frequency is perfect for real-time vehicle tracking. The challenge arises when I try to fetch the historical route (based on a given start and end date). I store the lat-long points and also use Google’s Reverse Geocoding API to translate them into human-readable addresses. But this reverse geocoding process takes 5–10 minutes for long trips, which is far too slow for a good user experience. I want to bring this down to under 4–5 seconds if possible. I’ve tried caching reverse geocode results in the database, but due to slight variations in GPS coordinates, the cache is often missed, even if the location is essentially the same. So now I’m looking for guidance or brainstorming ideas on: Efficient ways to optimise or batch reverse geocoding, Better caching strategies (perhaps fuzzy caching?), Are there any architecture or database design changes that could help? Or if someone has worked on such systems before, how they tackled it. I would love insights from someone who has built similar systems or has ideas to make this more efficient.
