I have a strong opinion about Indian parents. Why do they take their children as their future retirement plan just because of inherited responsibilities and pressure from parents most people in India can not follow what they wanted to do and have to settle for something that does the job. I don't get the concept of parents not working and having their child earn for the entire family when they are capable of working. whereas the western society is quite the opposite, and we like to push them down all the time, and youngsters tend to pick up some very niche habits done by them, not everything. The non-working attitude tends to depression, cognitive decline, and loss of identity in adults, backed by neurological research. The misinterpretation of the religion makes this a standard, and people don't get the difference. There is even a reference: Bhagavad Gītā 3.35. It does state abt (seva) into slavery. I mean, support your child, let him do his thing. If he gets successful, then you're all retired. And here I am not talking about mentally or physically challenged people, which still leaves a big chunk of the population described as above Only 37% of urban Indians are financially dependent on their families post-retirement, with 81% of these depending on their children for financial support. A 2019 HSBC report found that 55% of Indian parents financially support their adult children, indicating ongoing financial interdependence within families. Logical and rational opinions are appreciated.
