I think she doesn't know what it is to work with a New startup. Early Workers are no less than owners and investors, They'll become so powerful in the company if it hits. If it fails they are still skilled enough to get another job. Low Risk high rewards based on their work and vision on company idea.

Startup jobs especially in seed stage can't be gauged by salary. You should look for the future of the company. if you think this has potential to go big you should secure a good deal of E-SOPs as part of the package even if salary is low. As the start-up grows your salary will increase and your role in the business will become more prominent. But most importantly you will accumulate a good deal of E-SOPs with which you can make bank if everything goes according to plan and the business gets listed or taken over.
