Am I braking any copyrights selling spare parts ? The company doesn't provide any sort of replacement for the part in question and my design is not an exact replica but a functional one. I took measurements from the original piece and redesigned it, so am I in clear or am I in violation of any laws ?

You're likely in the clear if it's truly functional replacement and not aesthetic copying. Copyright doesn't protect mechanical function - that's patent territory, and most patents expire. If they're not making the part anymore, there's probably no active patent protection anyway.

for exact details you will have to check the patent manual of the part you are talking about. you will intelligently have to bypass the design there. search for patented design first
