MHI Launches SPMEPCI Portal to Boost EV Passenger Car Manufacturing in India The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched the SPMEPCI portal (Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India), open for applications from June 24 to October 21, 2025. Key features: - Reduced 15% import duty on EV CBUs priced ≥ $35,000 - Minimum ₹4,150 Cr investment required - Targets domestic value addition & clean tech production - Aligned with ‘Make in India’ and ‘Net Zero 2070’ goals This move aims to attract global and Indian EV manufacturers to localize production and make India a global EV manufacturing hub.
