Why does Elon Musk and his SpaceX own over half of all the satellites ? Over 11,000 satellites are currently orbiting the earth, and SpaceX owns over 7400 of them. Why ? Because SpaceX is launching all these satellites for Starlink. Starlink is Elon Muskโs ambitious satellite internet service that can provide high-speed internet to even the worldโs remotest areas. Fiber or cable internet needs a large network of cables that is very expensive to lay down, so it is profitable only in densely populated areas. Starlink solves this problem with a vast network of satellites in the sky that transfer data instead of cables. You can get satellite internet anywhere with a Starlink kit that can be setup instantly. But Starlink needs satellites always present over an area, so it needs thousands of satellites orbiting the earth at all times. And Elon Musk eventually plans to have over 32,000+ Starlink satellites in the sky. Russia had demolished Ukraineโs entire net and internet system within a few days of the war. It was Musk who came to the rescue with free Starlink kits for Ukraine. So if it were not for Starlink, Ukraine would have lost the war a long time ago.
