t’s sad to read media’s reporting (read: narratives) on ONDC. Nobody’s using the OFFICIAL DATA which reveals what will be lost, if ONDC doesn’t succeed. Thus, I immersed myself into ONDC’s open data platform. And Consider this: - 41% of retail (non-mobility) orders received by East Delhi’s merchants registered on ONDC are from outside East Delhi - And its common sense, that the orders coming from within East Delhi could majorly be food delivery orders, but the same won’t be true for longer distances, as with places outside East Delhi Thus, for the ONDC-registered merchants of East Delhi, the platform has brought about a meaningful business expansion. And this is ONDC’s real win. .. Let’s delve into more data. So, as I mentioned, for merchants of East Delhi, 41% of retail orders come from outside. - This is 47% for Central Delhi, 27% for North and West Delhi, 42% for South Delhi - And overall, 35% of all orders received by Delhi’s merchants registered on ONDC are from outside of Delhi It’s a massive market expansion for a whole lot of traditional business owners, kiranas etc! .. That said, let’s zoom out a bit. For Ladakh’s merchants on ONDC, 100% of the orders received are from rest of India. 90% for Gujarat. 88% for Punjab. 83% for Rajasthan. 47% for Tamil Nadu. 37% for UP. 36% for Haryana. 28% for West Bengal. And so on and on and on. Imagine, how lakhs of businesses registered on ONDC have suddenly begun to log sales from way beyond what their traditional market was all about. To be true, it’s utterly shameful how ONDC has failed to advertise its biggest win and impact. But more importantly, it’s equally sad that the media has never covered these dimensions of the impact delivered and potential shown.
