Make Choices Your Future Self Will Thank You For ๐ Facing one of those massive, potentially scary founder decisions? (Quit the job? Launch that risky product? Make a hard pivot?) It can feel totally overwhelming! ๐คฏ Here's a powerful mental model I've found incredibly helpful, often called the Regret Minimisation Framework (famously used by Jeff Bezos before starting Amazon): It's simple but effective. Hereโs how it works: 1๏ธโฃ Imagine Your Future Self: Picture yourself much older โ say, 80 years old โ looking back over your entire life. โณ 2๏ธโฃ Reflect on Today's Choice: From that future view point, think specifically about the big decision or crossroads you're facing right now. 3๏ธโฃ Ask the Key Question: Ask your future self: "Looking back, which path will I regret LEAST?" ๐ค Which decision (or indecision) would cause more lingering 'what ifs'? Why This Helps: โ Highlights Inaction: You often realise that the regret of not trying something you were passionate about (a regret of inaction) usually feels way worse than the regret of trying something and having it not work out perfectly (a regret of action/failure). ๐ Changes Perspective: It cuts through the immediate, short-term fears and anxieties by forcing you to think about what will truly matter in the grand scheme of your life and career. ๐ Encourages Boldness: It often gives you the clarity and courage needed to take that calculated 'leap of faith' required in entrepreneurship. Super useful for those high-stakes moments! Have you ever used this framework (consciously or unconsciously)? Or what's your go-to mental model for making tough calls with potentially big regrets on the line? Share your thoughts! ๐
