The real problem is that most "criticism" of India lacks nuance and historical context. India's literacy rate grew from 12% at independence to over 77% today. Is that enough? No. But it's remarkable progress that deserves acknowledgment. Our poverty reduction has been historic despite starting from colonial exploitation. The criticism I see is rarely constructive - it's usually "why aren't we Singapore yet?" without acknowledging we're dealing with challenges at a scale and complexity no other nation faces. The Vietnam manufacturing comparison is particularly flawed since they have 1/14th our population.
