Have you ever heard of a startup that's building a flying taxi? Sounds futuristic, right? Well, guess what India has one too! It’s called The ePlane Company, and they’re on a mission to completely change how we move around cities, using their very own electric flying vehicles, or eVTOLs (Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing aircraft). The startup was founded in 2019 by Satya Chakravarthy, an ex-aerospace professor from IIT Madras. What’s really cool is that ePlane is the first Indian company to get the Design Organisation Approval (DOA) from the DGCA. That basically means they’re officially cleared to take their electric aircraft into large-scale production something no other Indian startup has done yet. Right now, they’re working on their first model, the e200 a sleek, two-seater aircraft that can fly at speeds of up to 210 km/h. The first public trials are expected to begin around mid-2025, so if all goes well, you might actually get a chance to hop into one in the not too distant future! They’ve even partnered with Empire Aviation Group to bring their services to places like Dubai, Indonesia, and Thailand, offering not just air taxis but also air ambulances talk about flying to save lives! Looking ahead, the company wants to make your 60 minute commute shrink to just 14 minutes yep, that's the kind of future they’re aiming for. Their global expansion is set to kick off in 2026, and Dubai is likely to be the first international stop. picture credit - AI GENERATED
