The government has laid out a plan to clean the Yamuna River by 2027. This includes building 40 decentralized sewage treatment plants, upgrading existing ones, and replacing old sewer lines to stop untreated waste from entering the river. The plan is split into phases — short-term (3 months), medium-term (up to 1.5 years), and long-term (up to 3 years). Real-time monitoring and space tech will be used to track the flow of drains and performance of STPs. Delhi government has allocated ₹1,500 crore for the project and is seeking an additional ₹2,000 crore from the Centre.
