Left job at Google to build a 21,500 CR company. 1. After graduating from IIT Kanpur, Rahul Garg started at Google Asia, leading the AdX business. Despite a thriving career, he saw inefficiencies in India's industrial procurement—fragmented supply chains, lack of transparency, and outdated vendor networks. He wanted to do something. 🤔 2. In 2015, he left Google and founded a B2B commerce platform digitizing industrial procurement to convince manufacturers to shift from offline, trust-based purchasing to digital transactions. Moglix was born. 🚀 3. He started, but there were too many challenges. Manufacturers resisted change, logistics were chaotic, and trust in online procurement was low. Rahul had to find a solution, and an idea struck him. 4. Manufacturers would start trusting him if he could build supplier networks instead and offer credit financing and price transparency. Moglix started with MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) procurement, helping factories source industrial tools, PPE kits, and electrical supplies. And the idea worked. ✅ 5. By 2018, Moglix scaled to 100,000+ SKUs and 5,000+ suppliers and expanded to the automotive, pharma, and construction industries. It continued to work on data-driven procurement and raised 80 CR from Tiger Global and IFC. 💰 6. When players like Power2Sme and Industry Buying focused on bulk procurement, Moglix focused on enterprise-scale procurement and deep supplier integration. Despite hiccups in supplier onboarding delays, it scaled to a revenue of 500 CR in 2020. But the big news came next year. 👇 7. In May 2021, it raised 820 CR, becoming a unicorn at a $1B valuation, backed by Falcon Edge and Accel. Despite COVID-19, it hit a revenue of 3000 CR by 2022. Zetwerk and Infra.market tried, but nobody could beat Moglix's AI procurement models. 🙌 8. In Feb 2022, Moglix secured ₹2,500 CR at 21,000 CR, backed by Tiger Global and Ward Ferry. With 15,000+ suppliers and 700,000+ SKUs, it expanded into UAE and Southeast Asia, catering to 1,000+ enterprises, including Tata Steel, Hero MotoCorp, and Vedanta. 📈 9. Today, Moglix clocks a revenue of 8,000 CR and has over 50 warehouses and 3,00,000 SME customers. It is India's largest B2B industrial marketplace. 💪 ➡️Who would have thought that a person would love his cushy tech job at Google to build a 25,000 CR company for manufacturers and suppliers? 🙏
