I believe the clothing store business is something a lot of people open, but it actually doesn’t perform well nowadays. This is the truth, because just think about it most people today prefer buying from Amazon, Flipkart, or other online platforms. On top of that, even big offline stores like Zudio are offering clothes at super affordable prices. I’ve seen many local clothing stores that aren’t really working, but they’re still running somehow. Just go out on the streets and take a look out of 10 shops, you’ll find at least 5-6 are selling clothes or shoes, all in the same niche. Now think about it: rent is high, you have to keep adding new stock, invest a big amount upfront, and at the end, profits aren’t sustainable. But people still get into it, thinking "clothes will always sell." Honestly, I believe this is one of the worst businesses in India today.

The absolute worst business that inexplicably continues to attract new entrants is small web development/app development shops. I ran one for 5 years before finally giving up. The market is completely saturated, clients expect Infosys quality at freelancer prices, and everyone thinks their cousin who "knows computers" can do it cheaper. You're competing with both established firms AND platforms like Fiverr where people work for peanuts. Projects that should cost ₹5 lakhs get budgeted at ₹50,000. Yet I see new "digital solution" agencies popping up daily on LinkedIn, founded by fresh graduates who'll burn out in 2 years when they realize they're making wayyy less

Small neighborhood kirana stores have to be the worst business model in India right now. I've watched my uncle struggle with his shop for 15+ years. The margins are razor-thin (2-3% on most items), hours are brutal (14+ hours daily), and now they're getting crushed between online grocery delivery and massive retail chains like DMart and Reliance Fresh. Add in the constant distributor issues, spoilage problems, and the fact that half your customers want credit that they'll pay "next month." Yet drive through any residential area and you'll see new kirana stores opening constantly. People jump in thinking "everyone needs groceries" without understanding the economics. My uncle works harder than anyone I know and barely makes what a fresh IT graduate earns.
