The real issue here isn't about holidays - it's about company culture and respect. My company doesn't give specific festival days off either, BUT they give us 25 personal days plus 10 sick days annually. They also have a calendar noting all major religious holidays and actively discourage scheduling important meetings on those days. The problem with your company isn't the policy itself but the dismissive "this is not how things work here" attitude. A good company says "we understand these days are important to you, let's find a way to make it work" rather than making you feel guilty for wanting to celebrate your culture.
