The Indian religious travel industry is such an exciting sector to build in 👇 - Very under-organized, with no big players and low tech penetration. - $59bn is the projected revenue from this sector by 2028. - Over 60% of domestic trips in India happen to pilgrimage sites. - 1.6bn domestic tourists visited places of pilgrimage in 2023. - Uttar Pradesh is the top state for domestic tourism in India. It contains major pilgrimage sites such as Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Sarnath. I think startups can build on the 'ek teer do nishane' mindset of Indian tourists (visiting pilgrimage sites along with nearby non-religious attractions) and Ideas like purifying water bottles for Ganga Jal collection or filtration, branded retail shops outside every major temple for bhog, prasad, souvenirs, etc.
