India’s healthcare sector largely relies on foreign datasets for AI-driven medical research and development. This dependency arises due to the lack of a centralized, large-scale, and high-quality indigenous healthcare dataset. Most AI models in healthcare, including diagnostic tools and predictive analytics, are trained using datasets from countries like the US and UK, which may not fully represent the genetic, environmental, and epidemiological diversity of India. To achieve this, India needs a national healthcare data framework that ensures data privacy, standardization, and ethical usage. Collaborations between government bodies, hospitals, research institutions, and private entities can help build this critical resource, ensuring India’s healthcare AI is built on a foundation of data that truly represents its people.
