While most platforms stick to whole numbers, this seemingly odd 30-paisa addition plays a crucial role in Swiggy’s revenue strategy. Here’s how: If the handling fee were ₹7, adding 18% GST would bring it to ₹8.26, which would be rounded down to ₹8. But by slightly increasing the base fee to ₹7.30, the total after GST comes to ₹8.61, just enough to be rounded up to ₹9—giving Swiggy ₹1 extra per order. Now, considering Swiggy processes around 1 million Instamart orders daily, this tiny tweak results in an extra ₹40 crore per year.
