How $1 Billion Mobile Project Failed? So, In 2010, Microsoft came up with a very weird but interesting idea! And that was to create a social media-focused phone for ages 15–30. To make this phone, they acquired Danger for $500M and spent another $500 million on R&D and marketing. In total, after spending $1 billion, they introduced a phone where the home screen was just an aggregated feed with posts from popular social media apps, option to share images and listen to music. And that was it. It had no app store, no Google, Nothing! It was Just a phone for using social media, priced at $50 with a compulsory $40 monthly data subscription. And ig you would have guessed what happened to it. Tho it was cheap to buy, it was almost Useless and that's why it failed. Later they reduced their prices even further but even that didn't helped.
