The state of DeepTech funding in India (2024) is miserable and then we ask why can't India build its own foundational model. - Out of all the deals only 7.99% accounts for DeepTech (at 6th position), whereas E-commerce (1st) is at 22%. Enterprise tech and Fintech takes the 2nd (18.27%) and 3rd (17.72%) position respectively. - From a total funding amount perspective, DeepTech accounted for merely 4.76% of the total funding and sits at 8th position. Consumer Services sits at top with Traveltech and Fintech taking the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. - From a average funding per startup perspective, DeepTech sits at 9th position (last). Consumer Services takes the 1st spot with Traveltech and Fintech taking the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. Unless this improves, nothing will change - unless private sector starts taking the big bets, things will be difficult. It is not impossible but difficult.
